History

Crystal IS was incorporated and founded in New York State, in March of 1997. The company recently relocated from the RPI Incubator center, to the Green Island Tech Park.

With a management team of highly educated, experienced, and innovative scientists, Crystal IS is the creation of co-founders, Dr. Leo Schowalter and Dr. Glen Slack.

The company's current focus is on the development of a proprietary technique for growing larger and higher quality AlN crystals and in September 2004, Crystal IS raised $5.1M in it's first round of funding to commercialize the AlN growth process and develop a substrate suitable for production manufacturing applications.

In May 2006, Crystal IS released the world's first native 2-inch AlN substrates with etch pit densities.
