Crystal IS Inc. is positioning itself as the world leading supplier of UV LEDs.  It's core advantage comes from it's unique material technology used for the manufacturing of these LEDs.  Spun out from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Crystal IS Inc. is the world leading manufacturer of bulk aluminum nitride (AlN) single crystals, and the only commercial source of semiconductor substrates cut from these crystals.

AlN is the substrate of choice for LEDs operating in the ultraviolet range and we believe the only choice for high power commercially viable LEDs operating at wavelengths shorter than 280nm.

Crystal IS Inc. is leveraging the benefits of this technology to develop LEDs targeted at 265nm; the ideal wavelength for UV disinfection.

Backed by $15.7M of investment from leading venture capital firms including Arch Ventures, 3i, Lux Capital, Harris and Harris and Credit Suisse, Crystal IS, Inc. is situated in Green Island, New York.  Its 10,500 square foot facility houses production and development systems for crystal growth, slicing and polishing, epitaxial growth and device development and characterization.
